Who uses myschoolgate?

Parents (including if you are homeschooling) and carers with pre-school and school-age children up to the age of 18.  Grandparents who have an active role in their grandchildren’s upbringing are also welcome to join My School Gate.


How do I join myschoolgate?

Click on the ‘subscribe’ button at the top of the home page and follow the instructions.  You will need to enter your basic details including your name, email address and postcode.  Once you have clicked the ‘subscribe’ button at the bottom of the page, you will then be asked to ‘add my children’ to your account.  Follow the instructions in the right hand bubble and add your child(ren’s) school(s). You are allowed up to four entries – these can be up to four different schools, but your children must be currently attending the schools you subscribe to.


Why should I join myschoolgate?

My School Gate puts you in touch with parents/carers whose children are in the same school and year group.  It enables you to talk to others who may have similar experiences enabling you to support each other and give each other advice.  It also provides a wider support network though a national school’s forum (The Hub) through which you can find like-minded parents/carers which can be invaluable when facing the trials and tribulations of today’s school world.  You can rate your school and view other parent/carer ratings which may help you in your decision when choosing a future school for your child.  My School Gate also provides links to organisations whose primary motive is to help you with problems affecting your children, many of which are charities.  There is more help out there than you may have imagined, it is just knowing how to tap into it.


I don’t have children at school, can I still join myschoolgate?

If you have children at nursery or pre-school, or sixth form college – you can also join! My School Gate caters for pre-school children to sixth form college students.   If you cannot find your child’s nursery/school/college please email us via the ‘contact us’ button at the top of the home page.  If you are a grandparent with an active role in the upbringing of your grandchild, you are welcome to join My School Gate.


I’ve changed my email address.

If you have changed your email address you will need to update your ‘Account’ details.  Once you have logged in, click on ‘My Account’ at the top of the page and scroll down until you reach the ‘email address’ section.  Retype your email (which you will need to do twice) and click on the ‘update’ button at the bottom of the page.  You should receive an email at your new email address confirming you have updated your details.


I want to change my password.

If you wish to change your password, click on the ‘My Account’ button at the top of the home page and then retype your new password in the two password boxes on your Accounts page.  Click on the ‘update’ button at the bottom of the page and your password will be automatically updated.


I want to change my screen name

Unfortunately you cannot change your screen name for security reasons.  It is therefore very important that you do not disclose your screen name to anyone.  Treat it as you would a pin number for your bank card!


I’ve forgotten my password

If you have forgotten your password, click on the ‘Login’ button at the top of the home page, then click on ‘forgotten your password?’ underneath the login button.  You will be asked to type in your email address.  You will then receive an email asking you to follow the link back to the site where you will be asked to type in a new password.  This new password will become active straight away.


How do I rate a school?

Log in to the site, then click on ‘My Account’ at the top of the homepage.  You will see a bubble to the lower right hand side of your account details called ‘My Ratings’. You can now go ahead and rate the school listed under ’uncompleted’ by clicking on it.  You will be taken to the ratings page where you can click on the ‘my’ icons (one being terrible, five being excellent) and rate your child’s school and write a summary of your overall view of the school.  Click the silver ‘Update’ button at the bottom of the page and you will see this school appear in the ‘completed’ section of your ‘My Ratings’ bubble.  When you view the ‘Ratings’ section of the website, you will see your rating has now been added.


Can I change the rating I give a school?

You cannot change a rating once you have submitted it.  However, if you are concerned about one of your ratings and would like to change it, please contact our adminstrator via the ‘Contact Us’ button on the Home Page.


How do I view other school ratings?

To view other school ratings, click on the ‘School Ratings’ button at the top of the homepage. Type in the name of the school you are interested in and scroll down until you find this school.  Click on the ’View All Ratings’ icon alongside the school and you will be taken to the ratings for that school. 


How do I post a message on a forum?

To post a message on a forum, click on the ‘my forums’ button at the top of the home page, then click on the forum you would like to post on eg.  the hub, a school forum or year group forum. Click on the ‘post new topic’ , type your message in the white box and click on the ’submit’ button underneath the box.  You will see your message displayed in the forum. 


How do I delete a message on a forum?

You cannot delete messages posted on a forum by other members.  However, if you post a message, you will have 30 minutes from the time of posting within which to delete your message.   However, if you are worried about your posting, you can contact us and we may remove it for you.  If you wish to report a message that you consider to be abusive or defammatory, you can click on the triangle with the red exclamation mark next to the posting you wish to report.  My School Gate will then review the message and it may be removed from the site.  Members who post abusive or derogatory comments will be banned from using the site (see our terms of use by clicking on the icon at the very bottom of the home page).


How do I email someone on a forum?

To email someone on a forum, click on their name (which is underlined) and you will automatically be taken to your ‘my messages’ box.  Type in your subject and message in the  white boxes and click on ‘submit’ underneath the larger box.  Your email will be sent to their ‘my messages’ inbox showing your username only (ie you will remain anonymous).


Do I remain anonymous when I email someone from a forum?

Yes, when you send an email to someone on a forum you will remain anonymous as only your username appears in their inbox.


Is there a quick way to finding information on a particular topic?

The quick way to find information on a particular topic is to type in a keyword in the search bar above the forum you are visiting.  The keyword should summarise or describe the topic you are interested in finding.   If you wish to search all the forums for a topic, type your keyword in the ‘advanced search’ bar on the left hand side of the forums.


How do I report a post to myschoolgate?

To report a post to myschoolgate click on the triangle with the red exclamation mark alongside the post you wish to report.  This post will then be submitted to myschoolgate and may be removed by us.  Members who post abusive or defammatory comments will be banned from the site (read our full terms and conditions by clicking on the icon at the very bottom of the home page).


How to I cancel my membership for myschoolgate?

To cancel your membership, click on the ‘My Account’ button at the top of the homepage.  Scroll down to the bottom of your account page and click the ‘cancel account’ button.  Your details will immediately be removed from the site.  We regret that no refund can be given for accounts cancelled prior to the expiry of their one year subscription.


How do I get in touch with myschoolgate directly?

To get in touch with us, click on ‘Contact Us’  at the top of the home page.  You will be asked to type in your details and your message, type in the captcha code and then click on the silver ‘send message’ button.  Alternatively you can write to us at our registered address shown on the ‘Contact Us’ page.

All donations made to My School Gate will go towards developing the site and improving the level of service provided to its Members.
